Occupational Therapy Services:
Everyday people aspire to experience life to the fullest through the things they enjoy to do everyday whether it be at school, at home, at work, or out in the community. A toddler climbs the ladder at a playground to go down a slide. A preschooler puts on his shoes to get ready for a playdate. A kindergartner begins to copy their name and put a puzzle together. A group of school age children play with their peers, attend parties with their friends and families. A young adolescent transitions into the next steps of adulthood preparing to begin college, an adult vocational program, or workforce. These activities require a variety of skills that is emphasized within services including:
Cognitive/behavioral skills (following directions, sitting still, and taking turns)
Attention and focus (completing a full task without distractions)
Fine motor skills (cutting, grasping, and manipulating small objects)
Gross motor skills (running, catching, and throwing)
Self-care skills (dressing and feeding)
Coordination, strength, and balance
Visual motor skills (handwriting, building, putting puzzles together, and ball skills)

Our professional licensed occupational therapist helps toddlers, children, teenagers, and young adults learn the skills required to perform age- appropriate functional, purposeful, and meaningful activities that will allow them to reach their full potential. With occupational therapy, you or your loved one can learn to enjoy life as well as learn/re-learn skills needed to succeed in school, participate in age appropriate play with peers, build confidence to socialize with peers, and complete daily activities with increased independence. By receiving OT services and focusing on specific skills individualized to the person including improving cognitive/behavioral skills, attention and focus, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, coordination, muscle strength/endurance, visual motor skills, and social/emotional skills through utilizing a sensory and neuro-developmental approach to improve performance in activities. Through improving performances it will ultimately increase self-esteem, confidence, and motivation engage in activities with peers at appropriate age level and allow full participation as well as function independently in multiple environments including school, home, and community successfully.
Casandra is a licensed occupational therapist and has been practicing since graduating from Kean University in 2016. Casandra has had multiple years of experience prior to becoming a licensed therapist within the pediatric population with a strong background in working with children of ages 3-21 with a variety of developmental disabilities including developmental delays, cerebral palsy, autism, and other medical complexities. Casandra has personal experience within family dynamics of living with a family member with special needs primarily as a sibling role. Her passion and motivation within the field began at the age of 10 years old when watching the benefits of the profession she witnessed within her sister’s progress. During her undergraduate time at Sacred Heart University she created and led an adaptive yoga program for ambulatory and non-ambulatory children.
